How it works

Find out all about solar charging your devices.

Even though all our products include the newest and latest technology, they are surprisingly easy to set up and use.

This section will help you understand how exactly to recharge your device using energy gathered from the sun.

Here, we will show you how you can use an e5 Solar Charger to:

The Basics

Gather and store Solar Energy.

Products from Element5 Solar will assist you in gathering Energy out of sunlight and storing this energy for later use.

You can then use this energy to power electronic devices, light up rooms through LED technology

or just keep it as backup energy for emergencies.

ChargeSun

The Solar Module on your solar bag will transform sunlight to energy when exposed to the sun. This happens through a so-called photovoltaic process.

Energy is best harvested in bright sunlight, but the technology in our solar panels also allows for charging under cloudy circumstances and occasional shade that the module may be in.

RechargeDevice

A battery, specially designed for solar purposes, will store your generated sunlight as electricity within your bag or next to your solar kit.

It is essential to store your transformed sunlight in a special battery before you use it for your phone or tablet, as it is safer for your device

and more fun for you to use.

Connect

The battery will filter any energy peaks or lows coming from the solar panel in changing conditions. Also, it will act as a buffer for energy, making sure your devices get all the energy they need in one single charge and at exactly the voltage they need. Some of our batteries even count your energy production and will give you a feedback on your yield.

HIW-Phones

Probably the most widely used application for our solar chargers is to power mobile phones, smartphones and tablet computers with solar energy. Thus, all our energy storage batteries support charging of your phone or tablet with a charging current of up to 2.1A for super quick recharging.

In most cases, the approach is as easy as using your USB charging cable to connect your device to your solar charger battery and start charging right away.

Solar Chargers:

– e5 Business Solar Bag

– e5 Elegance Solar Bag

– Changers Solar Starter Kit

– e5 Explorer Outdoor Kit

Energy Storage:

– eJaguar

– Kalhuohfummi

Recharge your Phone and Tablet

using an USB Cable:

1) Harness Solar Energy

At the beginning of every solar charging stands the harvesting of energy. Point the solar module of your e5-Product towards the sun and start gathering sunlight.

Using our Solar Bags or Solar Kits, two to three hours of full sunlight will yield you enough energy for a full charge of a smartphone, such as iPhone, Samsung Galaxy or Nokia Lumia. Your converted solar energy will be stored in the Solar Battery connected to the module.

Remove your battery and look for the model number on the pack. This is typically a short alpha-numeric code. Below are examples of the Nikon EN-EL8 and the Canon BP-511 battery types. – See more at: http://www.voltaicsystems.com/solar-camera-charger.shtml#sthash.G2tYCuZ7.dpuf

2) Plug in cable and start charging sunlight

All our Solar Batteries have an USB Power Socket with up to 2.1 A of output current. Plug in your device’s USB cable to start charging solar energy. The basic rule of thumb is: If you can charge your device with an USB cable, you can also charge it with all our solar products. If you need another cable to carry with you or a special adapter, go get it in our Webshop.

If you are unsure which connector your Device requires, please do not hesitate to drop a quick e-Mail to our Service Center stating your device’s brand and name.

Our Support Team will be happy helping you find the right charging solution for your Mobile Phone or Tablet.

3) Sit back and let the charger work

Now that you’ve successfully hooked up your phone or tablet to your personal solar energy outlet, you have all the options:

– Continue using your phone/tablet for hours to go, thanks to the extra power that comes out of your solar battery.

– Keep gathering solar energy: You can charge your device and soak up some more solar energy at the same time.

– Relax and let the charger do its work: As soon as your device is fully topped up, all our chargers will stop the charging process automatically.

Charging your device using solar energy is going to be as quick as charging it over your home AC outlet. It may even be faster than that, as our USB sockets deliver up to 5 Volt and 2.1 Ampère.

Laptops and Notebooks

Using Solar Energy for longer productivity.

HIW-Laptops

Combine a powerful solar panel with a high-capacity energy storage and you can even recharge your Laptop computer using your self-harvested solar energy. The more seriously a solar energy supplier takes his job, the easier the recharging process will be for you. Element5 has always been on the forefront of offering notebook charging with solar power and here we show you exactly how to do it. An easy and satisfying charging process will ensure you can continue work on your spreadsheets or watch that Game of Thrones episode for much longer without running out of power.

Recharge your Laptop

With a common Adapter:

1) Make sure your eJaguar is charged

eJaguar is the Energy Storage Battery you can use to power your Laptop. With its 60Wh of power and an output Voltage of up to 20V, it is technically fit to juice up a full-size Laptop Computer. You can recharge your eJaguar using almost any source of energy: Be that solar electricity directly from your solar bag or a quick charge from any wall outlet.

eJaguar doesn’t have to be fully charged in order to power your notebook. You can draw energy from it and recharge it at the same time.

Remove your battery and look for the model number on the pack. This is typically a short alpha-numeric code. Below are examples of the Nikon EN-EL8 and the Canon BP-511 battery types. – See more at: http://www.voltaicsystems.com/solar-camera-charger.shtml#sthash.G2tYCuZ7.dpuf

2) Choose the appropriate Adapter

eJaguar comes shipped with a variety of adapter tips, which cover most of today’s Notebook models. Find out which is the one for you (Labeled A-J) by either comparing them to your Laptop’s original adapter or using this list.

NOTE: Notebooks produced by Apple, Inc. (Macbooks) use a different approach adapter-wise. We will clarify this in the next section: Recharge your Macbook

If you are unsure which adapter your Notebook requires or can’t seem to find a suiting one in our selection, please do not hesitate to drop a quick e-Mail to our Service Center stating your Notebook Brand and Type.

Our Support Team will be happy helping you find the right adapter or cable for your Laptop.

3) Recharge your Laptop on the go

Make sure you have chosen the right adapter tip and connect your Laptop to your eJaguar via the DC Out Port.

Select the Output Voltage according to the figure on your Laptop Wall Charger and press the on/off Button in order to start the charging.

You can re-read all the steps in the eJaguar user manual you can find here.

Recharge your Macbook

With our special direct cable:

1) Macbooks need a special Adapter Cable

Apple Inc. holds all rights for Macbook-compatible “MagSafe” adapters. Thus, we are not able to produce own adapter tips as we do for laptops of other suppliers. We can, however, offer you a specially crafted cable to connect your Macbook to our eJaguar Power Pack.

Remove your battery and look for the model number on the pack. This is typically a short alpha-numeric code. Below are examples of the Nikon EN-EL8 and the Canon BP-511 battery types. – See more at: http://www.voltaicsystems.com/solar-camera-charger.shtml#sthash.G2tYCuZ7.dpuf

2) Easy as plug and play

As soon as you have our special connection cable ready, the rest is easy: Plug one end into the battery and the other into your Macbook.

Depending on your Macbook model, you might use either MagSafe version 1 or 2. You can always upgrade a MagSafe 1 cable using the plug-on tip.

3) We buy your Macbook AC Adapter

We craft our own Macbook-eJaguar cables using old and recycled original Macbook AC Adapters. We cut off the cable on the Adapter side and add our own plug on the other side to make it fit the DC Out on eJaguar.

Thus, we are constantly looking for resupplies and unused AC Adapters from Apple.

If you want to give yours to recycle, we will be happy to use it and give you in return a store credit of up to CHF/USD 15.-
